Can I attach documents to my application?: If your documents are in an acceptable electronic format, they may be attached with your submitted application. Please note that once your application is certified and submitted you cannot attach documentation to your application. If you neglected to attach supporting documentation to your application you must submit it directly to the Human Resources Office.

1. How do I apply for employment with the City of Hoover?: The City of Hoover accepts applications only for those jobs which are currently open. All applications are completed online through the city’s website.

2. Will the City of Hoover accept paper applications in addition to electronic applications?: No. The City of Hoover accepts online applications only.

3. What if I don't have access to a computer or need assistance?: The application can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any location that has internet access. You may also complete an application online during normal business hours in the City of Hoover Human Resources Office located at 100 Municipal Lane. Computers and assistance with completing the application online are available in the lobby.

5. Do I have to complete a new application for every vacancy in which I am interested?: You do not have to enter all of your information each time you apply but must answer those questions that are specific to each particular job you are interested in and submit that application. When you first log on to the system, you will create a user ID and a password. The user ID and password will allow you to access your application at any time, from any place. You must receive a confirmation that you have applied for each job. If there is any question, please contact our office.

6. Can I attach documents to my application?: If your documents are in an acceptable electronic format, they may be attached with your submitted application. 7. What types of documents should I submit with my application?: If specific documentation is required with your application for a particular position, the job posting will detail that information. Otherwise you may submit information such as resumes, cover letters, and letters of recommendation. Please note that resumes do not take the place of information required work experience and do not put “See Resume” anywhere on your application. Resumes are a supplement to an application, not a substitute.

8. Can I make a change to my application once I have completed it or do I have to complete a new one?: You can make a change to your application for any future vacancies, but you cannot make a change to an application you have submitted and for which you have received a confirmation. However, if you need to change your contact information, i.e. address, email or telephone number relating to an application already submitted, log back into your application using your user name and password, click edit application, make your change(s), save and exit. Be sure and notify Human Resources when a change in contact information is made.

9. I have submitted my application. Now what?: Applications are reviewed in Human Resources in order to determine minimum qualifications. If a job requires a written examination it will be stated in the job posting and qualified applicants will be sent further instructions. Those applications that meet all minimum requirements are sent to the relevant hiring manager in the department for review. The hiring manager in that department reviews the qualified applications and determines which candidates will be selected for an interview. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications we receive, not all candidates will be contacted for interviews.

10. 11. What about employment in education?: Our office is separate from the Hoover City Schools and we have no authority for teaching positions or other jobs in education. If you are interested in such employment please contact the Board of Education at 205-439-1000. Hoover City Schools

12. Why is Library Page posted continuously?: The Hoover Library employs many Library Pages. That job is posted continuously so that as positions become available there will be a fresh list of candidates to consider. When a position becomes available, the qualified applications are referred at that time. There are Library Page positions in all divisions of the Library and the hours can be varied.
